Scientific advanced education programmes for museum and exhibition organisers
With effect from the 2016 summer semester, museOn | advanced education and network offers scientific advanced education in a Blended Learning format for the museum scene. Subjects such as staging exhibitions, management, digitial strategies and museological overviews can be studied online and rewarded with an academic certificate (Certificate of Advanced Studies). Online learning sessions are complemented and extended by compressed attendance sessions in Freiburg and environs. The modular system of the course content allows for individually tailored combinations and career planning.
In the introductory test phase (2016/2017), the programmes on offer are free of charge!
Which courses are offered?
With effect from the 2016/2017 winter semester, museOn offers four subjects comprising a total of 20 individual courses. The following modules are available: collecting, museum education, arketing. Each module consists of five individual courses which can also be attended separately. Each individual course earns one credit point and requires 25 to 30 hours of work by the students.
What does the study programme look like?
You decide first whether you want to attend individual modules (for a Certificate of Attendance), or whether you are aiming for a diploma (Certificate of Advanced Studies – CAS). Depending on your decision, select one or more individual courses or, in the case of a CAS, two complete modules (5 single courses each selected from two different subjects). If you decide in favour of two modules, i.e. if you wish to obtain a certificate, then please, in addition to the online learning phase, also allow for an introductory course (propaedeutics) (2CP), the attendance week and the final weekend. Moreover, completion of a small personal project is required. You will find an overview of all the semester dates in the module manual.
Study on a part-time basis
Blended Learning1 permits to a large extent time and location-independent learning. The single courses are presented either entirely online, as an attended session or as a combination of online learning and attendance sessions. In the online sessions you have, inter alia, the possibility to deal with the contents theoretically, to watch E-lectures, to discuss acquired knowledge online or to present your own learning results. Attended sessions are orientated towards practical applications at museOn. This means, you spend most of the time in so-called laboratory sessions directly on-site in a museum or collection.
An accompanying E-Portfolio will help you in the certificate programme to keep track of your own learning progress and to combine and reflect the different types of content from the individual courses. Moreover, there are tutors, who will be able to answer any content-related and organisational questions, accompany your learning process and help you to plan your time resources effectively

How much time should you allow for study?
A single course will require a total of 25-30 hours for study. A module with five separate courses will require a maximum of 150 hours. Please note, that in the case of online modules you can largely schedule your own study sessions. You can also combine several discrete courses to suit your needs. A CAS advanced education course will require 300 hours of study and includes 10 individual courses, an introductory course and a practical module.
